2 - It slows down the signs of ageing
When you don't get proper rest and sleep, the body resorts to using cortisol to deal with the effects of fatigue and stress of the day. Although this works – cortisol is an anti-immune and anti-inflammatory hormone after all – it is no substitute for a good night's sleep. While cortisol will temporarily reduce the pain and aches you feel; in the long run it can cause your blood sugar levels to increase and can adversely affect your skin, tissue and cells. The result is that without a decent sleep you can look older than you actually are.
